Niall Dooley/Visual Artist
My practice centres on the development of figurative imagery, primarily in the form of paintings on board, wall and canvas. Working with reduced colour and an emphasis on line, I create images in which groups of figures and symbolic elements are arranged in ways that suggest narrative significance, with meaning emerging through their relationships and placement within the composition.
My paintings often explore aspects of the human condition and the conditions that shape how people understand and navigate the world around them. I am interested in how relationships between figures, gestures and symbolic elements can generate meaning within a composition. The works are intended as open metaphors that engage with aspects of contemporary life and the forces that shape collective experience.
